Which cat breed is made for you?

Cats have won the hearts of millions of people thanks to their adorable looks and peculiar personalities. Each cat has its own personality, from playful to calm, energetic to reserved, and each breed has its own distinctive traits that make them unique. If you are looking to welcome a new cat into your house, there are a few things about the breed you’ll choose that you need to know. Here is a breakdown of the most popular cat breeds’ characteristics in Malaysia, so you will be able to learn more about the breed itself and determine if it is the right fit for you.

Persian

Known for their long coat and short nose, Persians can live up to around 14 years. They are rather reserved but still loving to their owner. They have a very calm temperament, are pretty laid back, and are not very active. They prefer to lounge around the house. They don’t require a lot of attention; they are just fine with sitting on your lap or next to you. Due to their long coat, it is required for them to be groomed regularly. They prefer a calm environment and don’t like too many noises.

Maine Coon

This cat breed is the largest in the world, but their heart is as big as their size! Maine Coons have long and silky fur; they shed more than short-fur cats, so they need to be groomed quite often to prevent matting. They can live up to 15 years. They are very playful and friendly, loving affection but still pretty independent on their own. Maine Coons require activities that challenge their minds as they are very intelligent; therefore, they need toys and they love going out. They are not very suitable for indoor life and love to hunt small animals, so don’t be surprised if they come home with a small “gift.”

Abyssinian

Abyssinians originate from Egypt; they have short hair and a slim figure. They have big ears and captivating eyes. Their fur is short and can be of different colors. Their life expectancy is known to be around 15 years. Abyssinians are highly intelligent and athletic; they always need to play around and challenge their minds, so they need toys and an environment that is mentally stimulating to them. They are known for being funny, always having a trick up their sleeves.

Sphynx

The Sphynx is known for its unique look: no hair. They actually have fine hair, soft like peaches, but not very perceptible. The lack of fur can make them feel cold fast, so they need to move around a lot to keep their body warmth stable. That does not mean you don’t need to take care of them: Sphynx needs a bath and skin care, and be careful of the sun! Because they have no fur, they have nothing to protect them from sunburns. Sphynx are very loving, not much of explorers, so they like the indoor life with their owners, spending time on their lap and enjoying cuddles. You can spend around 15 years with this loving cat.

Munchkin

Munchkins are really famous on the internet because of their little legs! Their short legs are the result of a genetic mutation that makes them look rather long but no less cute. Their hair can be long or short. They are very affectionate and outgoing. Their high energy requires them to have toys and a lot of playtime to avoid feeling bored. They can live up to 15 years but will forever be kittens at heart.
